Description

Rhodium is used:
• for electrical contacts: metal covered with a very thin layer of rhodium (or Rh alloy);
• in several scientific equipment, for example precision pyrometers or thermocouples;
In certain X-ray tubes, on their anodes, in particular in the field of X-ray fluorescence spectrometry;
• for certain mirror coatings with high reflectivity. Taking advantage of its excellent reverb and its greatness, it is applied to the mirrors of the projectors. It is thus present on cinema projectors and on astronomical mirrors;
• for shiny-dark hardcoat silverware and photographic camera parts (before the digital era). Because of its chemical inertia much higher than that of silver or gold, it is always used in the form of fine tackles in jewelery and jewelery. It is still used in the electrogalvanization of silverware, which prevents the tarnishing of unprotected silver
• in the manufacture of jewelry jewelery stands (Swarovski jewelery and others);
• in orthodontics, partly on certain ceramic type gear [ref. necessary], in order to have a low coefficient of friction (lower than the ceramic) while maintaining a limited metallic gloss. Indeed, this metal has the faculty, with a certain treatment, to limit its brightness (matte appearance). This is black rhodium or black rhodium known in jewelry.
